Day 6: Love the Lord your God

Day 6: Love the Lord your God

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.”  Matthew 22:37-38 Our prayer focus today is the greatest commandment, to love God with everything we’ve got.  We need to pray and ask God to help us do this.  If you’re like me loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind is an up and down reality.  Sometimes I’m right there totally focused, other times not so much.  I wonder if our love for God is somewhat like the concept of the 5 love languages developed by Dr. Gary Chapman.  The idea is that each of us give and receive love in unique ways.   Here are the five love languages; Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch.  If your love language is Words of Affirmation, taking time to love God by praising and worshipping Him may come easy.  However, you may find it harder to love God with service.  Conversely, if your love language is “Acts of Service”, you love to serve God in as many ways as possible, but slowing down to pray and worship may be difficult.  In your prayer time today, take some time to consider your love language to God.  Pray and ask God to help you love him in the ways that don’t come as easy or natural to you.  Ask God to help you express and live out your love for Him with all your heart, soul and mind.
