Day 1: Let There Be Light

Our prayer guide today included John 1:5, The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

What a powerful prayer thought for us today.  Jesus, the creator called light into darkness.  Jesus is himself the light shining in the darkness.  As I think about our world right now, I can think of much darkness.  There is the darkness created by the pandemic; physical sickness and death, economic loss and much emotional/psychological distress and fear.  There is a growing drug problem ruining the lives of many families.  There is a mental health crisis that is increasing.   Then there is the general shrinking of faith and the growth of spiritual darkness and oppression.  It’s easy to focus on the darkness.  However, we want to focus on Jesus as the light that shines in the darkness.

Take some time to pray specifically about the above areas of darkness, and others you encounter.  Pray and ask Jesus to shine brightly in those places.  Ask him to lift people out of darkness into His marvelous light.  Pray as specifically and urgently as you can.
